A great week for Romanian tennis continued on Friday, October 17, with two pieces of good news. In the early hours of the morning, Jaqueline Cristian learned that she had qualified for the semifinals of the tournament in Osaka, after Naomi Osaka (28 years old, 16 WTA) dropped outbecause of a pain in the leg.

Later, Sorana Cîrstea entered the field, having Viktorija Golubic (33 years old, 60 WTA) as her opponent. The 35-year-old player started the match well, but the athlete from Switzerland came back in the second sequence. The last set was controlled by Cîrstea, who prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 and advanced to the semifinals.
