The United States has “powerful” weapons that are not currently used in Ukraine, but Kiev could receive them in the future, American ambassador Matthew Whitaker said at a Riga conference, according to RBC-UKraine.
According to him, the US has weapons capable of provoking “serious damage, in the place and time chosen.”
“Some of these could be transferred to Ukraine to be used, and this could change the calculations. But of course, we have not yet reached the point where Vladimir Putin considers it to be the right time for negotiations,” said Whitaker.
Tomahawk rockets for Ukraine
Donald Trump's team has expressed concern about the risk of losing control over Tomahawk rockets if they were transferred to Ukraine.
In the last year, Kiev has repeatedly raised the problem of obtaining long -range weapons. Recently, Trump said he is close to making a decision on sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski did not specify whether Ukraine had expressly requested these missiles. According to the press, he discussed the subject with American officials during his visit to the United States.
Russia has already reacted to the possibility of delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, threatening with serious escalation if long -range weapons will be sent to Kiev.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the provision of Tomahawk Ukraine would damage the positive perspectives in relations that, according to him, had developed between the two countries.
