In Krasnoyarsk, a 24-year-old guy came under criminal investigation after he staged the theft of his own car. This was reported to the regional police.
In April, a local resident turned to law enforcement for help. The girl reported that unknown people stole her husband’s Toyota Corona from the parking lot near the house. Later, she notified law enforcement officers that she and her husband had found a stolen car on Rest Island.
The police went to the scene. Upon inspection of the car, it was discovered that the ignition switch was broken. There were also signs of an attempt to open the trunk. Based on this fact, a criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (wrongful taking of a car).
During the investigation, the testimony of the Toyota owner raised doubts among law enforcement officers. The young man was warned of criminal liability for knowingly false denunciation, but stubbornly insisted that his car was stolen.
“Police officers carried out a set of operational measures and established that the owner of the car himself left the car on the island because he did not want to go shopping with his wife. For the sake of credibility, he damaged the vehicle and put a jacket found nearby on the hood,” said the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.
A criminal case was opened against the guy under Part 1 of Art. 306 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Knowingly false denunciation”, he faces up to 2 years in prison. Currently, the young man is under recognizance not to leave the place and proper behavior.
