Barbara cyclone came on Tuesday evening with torrential rains in the south of the country, and Giurgiu counted among the most affected cities. Under the warning of red code issued by meteorologists, the large quantities of water flooded several areas of the city, including the sports base on the port road.
The lockers of the complex were flooded, and the base staff requested the intervention of the firefighters.
The crews from the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Giurgiu arrived at the scene and began to evacuate the water. The operation lasted several hours, due to the large amount of precipitation fallen in a short time.

According to the authorities, Barbara cyclone brought water amounts of 50 liters per square meter. The sports activity was suspended until the affected spaces are repaired.
“After a night of continuous interventions, the ISU Giurgiu crews, together with the Volunteer Service for Emergency Situations Giurgiu and the company responsible for taking over and purifying waste water, acts today for managing the effects produced by abundant rains.
The missions are carried out especially in the municipality of Giurgiu, where the sewerage system is overloaded, and the water has been accumulated again in certain areas.
This morning, military and volunteer firefighters also acted for:

the evacuation of water from 10 courts, housing or interior spaces in the municipality of Giurgiu, on the streets of pinks, stones, old bricks, new bricks, Călugăreni, Gloriei, on Bălănoaiei Road, Bujorului Foundation and Dudului Foundation;

The Victoria Giurgiu Sports Club and CSM Giurgiu Danube carry out its activity at the sports base on Portului Street. The city no longer has a football team in Liga 1 in 2021, when Astra has shockingly relegated and later abolished.
Local authorities remain on alert because new rainfall is expected in the next few hours.
