Every eighth resident of the United States used medicines from the GLP -1 analogue group, such as OZEMPIC – according to the latest report of the American research organization Rand Corporation. Most often women aged 50-64 reach for them, although men predominate in older age groups.

The authors of the study pointed out that the GLP-1 analogues are associated with quite frequent side effects. The two most common are: nausea, reported by about half of patients, and diarrhea – 1/3 of users.

The report also reminded that the use of ozempic and other drugs based on semaglutation began to grow rapidly after 2020, when clinical trials confirmed their effectiveness in the treatment of obesity and supporting weight reduction, not just diabetes. Since then, the number of prescriptions written has been tripled.
