Pendolino under the Tatra Mountains. New Gdynia -Zakopane connection from December
From December 14, passengers will be able to use the new Pendolino railway connection on the Gdynia -Zakopane route. PKP Intercity announces that the journey to the capital of the Tatra Mountains will take 7 hours, which is to emphasize the prestige and convenience of this solution. The tourism industry does not hide enthusiasm, seeing it as a chance to attract wealthier tourists and promotional support for the region.
Karol Wagner from the Tatra Chamber of Commerce in an interview with the Polish Press Agency pointed out that the inhabitants of Zakopane and guests have long been waiting for such a solution. The comfort of travelers is to be taken care of by modern warehouses, which according to him will attract tourists looking for luxury. He also pointed out that Pendolino has a chance to repeat the historical success Luxtorpeda – a pre -war train that provided prestigious travels in comfortable conditions. Wagner added that thanks to the new connection, Zakopane regains the status of an important point on the communication map of Poland.
The possibility of introducing a pendolino under the Tatra Mountains is the result of the completed modernization of railway lines in Podhale at the end of December last year. The investment for over PLN 1.4 billion has allowed the renovation of over 100 km of tracks, replacement of over 130 switches and modernization of 300 engineering facilities.
