Poland Halts Military Aid Package to Ukraine Amid Controversial Vote

Poland planned to send military aid to Ukraine

Reports indicate that Poland was preparing to send a significant military assistance package to Ukraine when a controversial vote took place in Lviv. The local council voted to declare 2027 as the year of Roman Shukhevych, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, and Oleg Olzhych.

According to a source within the Ukrainian government, “Due to their irresponsible actions, the delivery of this package has now been suspended. Active work is underway through closed channels to resolve the unexpected issue.”

Meanwhile, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki stated in an interview with Polsat News that Kyiv assured Warsaw the Lviv regional council’s decision would not take effect. He noted that after Warsaw’s intervention, the related resolution disappeared from the council’s website.

“The resolution is no longer on the website, which gives us hope. We trust the Ukrainian government and expect them to uphold their promises,” Bosacki said.

  • Following this news, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski remarked that they intend to place local council member Svyatoslav Sheremet, the initiative’s proponent, on a list of undesirable persons in Poland.
  • The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the council’s decision, emphasizing that it was made at a regional level without consultations with diplomats and central authorities. They stated, “Such decisions, touching on sensitive historical matters in our bilateral agenda, are counterproductive to our current efforts aimed at furthering Ukrainian-Polish relations amid ongoing Russian aggression and unprecedented security threats to both our countries and the region as a whole.”
