Venezia, currently at the bottom of Serie A, delivered a stunning upset by defeating Napoli 1-0 in a seventh round match held at home.
This victory marked the debut of new coach Davide Nicola and was Venezia’s first success of the current season.
Venezia Ends Losing Streak Against Napoli
The only goal of the match came in the 49th minute when Akor Adams outmaneuvered Amir Rrahmani to score with a shot deflected by the Napoli defender.
Despite Napoli’s 20 attempts on goal, they were kept at bay by the outstanding Filip Stankovic, who recorded nine remarkable saves throughout the match.
His most significant contribution occurred in the 68th minute when he saved a penalty taken by Kevin De Bruyne, which was awarded after Matias Moreno fouled substitute Rasmus Hojlund.
Following this defeat, Napoli remains in ninth place with ten points. Venezia, despite the win, still sits at the bottom of the league table after suffering six consecutive losses earlier this season.
Napoli is set to face AS Roma in their next match on October 24, while Venezia will visit Genoa.
