Kyiv Faces Health Crisis If Sewage System Halts for Three Days
Kyiv is on the brink of an epidemiological disaster if its sewage system ceases to function for three days, according to the deputy director of Kyivvodokanal. The disruption in electricity supply would halt water pumps, exacerbating the situation. Should water supply not be restored promptly, drinking water will need to be delivered by water trucks. Residents on lower floors would be most affected during the sewage system stoppage, while those on upper floors could experience water loss first due to reduced pressure in the system.
Moreover, the utility has faced significant staffing challenges, losing 40% of its workforce over the past four years due to resignations and changes in military service exemptions. Currently, each remaining employee is effectively covering the workload of four others.
