Kyiv Faces Up to 22 Hours Without Power as Regions Brace for Blackouts

Residents of Kyiv may experience power outages lasting between 18 and 22 hours, while some areas are expected to be without electricity for up to two days. According to Oleksandr Popenko, head of the Consumers Union of Utility Services, Ukrainians should prepare for extremely severe blackout schedules. The ongoing situation has been exacerbated by damage to vital infrastructure including the Kyiv Hydroelectric Station, TPP-5, and the Trypillya Thermal Power Plant, as well as the Kyiv Substation.

Currently, there are no functional generation facilities operating in Kyiv, and the situation is similarly dire in Odessa and other frontline cities. In contrast, regions in the west are likely to face a slightly easier winter. Odessa, in particular, may endure power disruptions lasting up to two days. Immediate solutions to these issues appear unattainable, and the protection of energy facilities from attacks has been halted.
