Poland’s Coach Jan Urban Comments on 6-0 Victory Over Romania

Jan Urban, the 64-year-old head coach of Poland, expressed his thoughts following a decisive 6-0 victory against Romania in the third round of the Nations League group stage.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a penalty awarded for a foul by Radu Drăgușin, who was subsequently sent off for the offense. Although Poland entered halftime with a narrow 1-0 lead, they exploded in the second half, adding five more goals.
Jan Urban on Surpassing Gică Hagi: “We Could Conserve Our Energy”
“Right from the start, when it was 11 against 11, there was tremendous determination. The team was eager to win this match,” Urban said.
He noted that there were moments when the Romanian team launched dangerous counterattacks, and Poland took significant risks in one-on-one situations at the back. “Of course, we discussed this and tried to correct these issues,” he added.
Urban highlighted how the penalty and the red card changed the game’s dynamics. “You need to know how to take advantage of a player’s advantage. Sometimes, it’s not that straightforward. A team can fall back into their area, focusing on counterattacks, which requires a lot of energy and solutions to break down a team with a numerical disadvantage. However, that was not the case today. While it was crowded on the left side, we handled our one-on-one duels well. At halftime, we were only up 1-0.”
He continued, “We talked about wanting to secure a favorable result as quickly as possible to control the game. This also allowed us to conserve some energy for the next match. It wasn’t just about defensive work. When needed, we resolved issues quite effectively. If nothing changes, there’s no reason to alter our approach,” Urban stated, according to reports from weszlo.com.
