Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning that multiple intelligence agencies have indicated Russia’s intentions to expand its military operations beyond Ukraine to other countries. He stated, “Many intelligence agencies have information that the Russians want to extend their war and activities into other states. It is essential that we build a defense together and prepare preemptively to protect ourselves.”
To strengthen defenses, Zelensky highlighted ongoing discussions with allies regarding enhanced sanctions and introduced the “Drone Deal” framework. This initiative aims not only to facilitate the export of weaponry but also to establish joint defense systems.
The president emphasized the importance of sharing Ukraine’s combat experience and modernizing defense capabilities for both Ukraine and its partners, particularly those who may find themselves under pressure from Russia or its allies. He revealed that Ukraine has already entered into 11 agreements under the Drone Deal framework.
In context, earlier warnings from European officials have surfaced regarding the threat of a Russian incursion into NATO territories. In early August, Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt noted that the country faces daily threats from Russia’s hybrid warfare, including espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert operations.
On August 23, The Telegraph reported, citing Western intelligence sources, that Russia is recruiting criminal groups for sabotage operations at European defense plants to evade direct NATO retaliation. Additionally, Russian drones have been spotted multiple times in EU countries, and Moscow has frequently provoked NATO airspace violations.
In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed on September 25 that he has no intention of attacking EU nations.
