Kiev authorities announced the resumption of work on the construction of a backup heating pipeline in the Teremki district. According to officials, the option to lay the heating pipeline along Glushkova Avenue would cost approximately 306 million UAH, while the route along Teremkivska Street is estimated at 280 million UAH.
Naumenko, the head of the department overseeing the project, indicated that the installation along Teremkivska Street would necessitate the relocation of existing networks and would lead to a complete shutdown of heating services for all adjacent buildings for an estimated duration of ten months.
“If the pipeline is constructed along Teremkivska Street, the relocation of existing networks will inevitably disconnect all buildings on that street from heating services for a period of ten months,” he stated.
Context
- The construction of the backup heating pipeline aims to support the residential areas of Teremki-1 and Teremki-2 as part of Kiev’s resilience plan. Upon completion, the backup system is expected to provide heat to over 180 residential buildings, benefiting around 53,000 residents, as well as three hospitals, and approximately 20 schools and kindergartens.
- During the summer, some community activists opposed the project due to the need for tree removal. Construction was paused for about a month and a half for community consultations and project adjustments. According to Kiev officials, the updated plan has managed to preserve over 200 trees.
- On September 21, work on the backup heating pipeline resumed after summer discussions with local residents regarding the project.
