A fire broke out on the roof of a munitions manufacturing facility in Slovakia during ongoing repair work. The blaze was detected around noon, with 16 firefighters responding using seven units of equipment. Local authorities advised residents in the vicinity to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and turn off air conditioning and ventilation systems drawing air from outside.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinak stated that the fire likely occurred amid renovations in the workshop. He noted that production equipment was not ablaze and that there was no activity in the affected area at the time of the incident. Kalinak speculated that the fire could have resulted from welding activities.
ZVS Holding, part of Slovakia’s munitions supply chain, manufactures metal casings for munitions, including 155 mm artillery shells. According to reports, the company is jointly owned by the partially state-owned DMD Group and MSM Group, associated with Czech arms entrepreneur Michal Strnad.
Production in the damaged area has been temporarily halted following the fire. The company is currently investigating the cause of the incident and assessing the extent of the damages.
