In response to a significant increase in attacks on fuel stations, the Ukrainian government convened an urgent meeting involving representatives from the ministries of Energy, Economy, Finance, Infrastructure, the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the State Emergency Service, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The head of the meeting, Korytsky, noted, “The enemy has considerably intensified strikes on fuel complexes. Recent assaults have targeted stations in the capital and along international roads. Our primary task is to ensure the safety of personnel and visitors, as well as to maintain a systematic and secure supply of petroleum products from fuel stations.” He revealed that a new software solution is currently being tested, which will help track drone movements and allow for timely threat responses.
This new system will first be trialed at fuel stations, with plans to connect it to other businesses soon after. Ministers were instructed to expedite this process.
During the meeting, authorities also discussed installing additional protective structures on ground infrastructure elements and creating shelters for staff and visitors.
Moreover, they analyzed the balance of petroleum products, logistics, and pricing issues. Due to events in the Middle East and disruptions in supply chains, global oil prices are rapidly rising again. It is evident that Ukrainian market players are reacting accordingly to these developments.
Separate discussions focused on a clear action plan concerning railway connections, which are also under continuous attack by Russian forces. Officials considered simplifying customs procedures for fuel transporters, similar to the measures implemented in 2022.
