Ukrainian intelligence has raised concerns about potential terrorist acts during the upcoming elections in occupied territories. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), these provocations could include targeted attacks on polling stations, sabotage of transport and infrastructure, as well as assassination attempts on collaborators.
The SSU suggests that the aim of these actions could be to falsely accuse Ukraine, justify repression against the local population, and initiate a new wave of mobilization in Russia. Intelligence sources also believe that the Kremlin seeks to disrupt the peace process mediated by the United States by artificially escalating tensions and tarnishing Ukraine’s image among Western partners.
The SSU forecasts that between September 18 and 20, in the occupied regions of Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Lugansk, and Crimea, there could be explosions at polling stations, transport disruptions, and assassination attempts connected to the ongoing elections.
Residents in the temporarily occupied territories are advised to avoid crowded areas, polling stations, administrative buildings involved in the voting process, and military infrastructure facilities during the period from September 17 to 21.
