Enzo Fernandez, 25, has shared his first thoughts following his record-breaking transfer to Manchester City. The Argentine international made the move from Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium for £125 million, setting a new record for the club.
Fernandez has signed a contract that runs until the summer of 2031 and described his move to City as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. “I am truly happy to be here. I have always dreamed of being at a club as big as City. I am grateful for this opportunity. This is a very emotional moment for me and my family, making this step at 25 in a career I’ve always dreamed of,” he stated.
He expressed enthusiasm for his initial time at the club, noting, “I can already see how great it is, and we will have fun and win a lot together.”
Fernandez: “I Did Not Hesitate for a Second”
The Argentine midfielder explained that he did not take long to consider Manchester City’s interest and emphasized his goal to continue the club’s success. “Manchester City must win every trophy they compete for. In every competition we participate in, we must fight and win because the history of this club demands it,” he remarked.
Fernandez added, “Honestly, from the first day they believed in me and called to say they wanted me to join the club, I did not hesitate for a second. This is a club that has won much in recent years. It is a club that is making history in football, and for me, it is a huge challenge. My goal since they called me was to come here and help the club continue winning together.”
In addition, Fernandez spoke highly of Enzo Maresca, acknowledging the important role the manager played in his transfer. “Honestly, he is a top manager. I worked with him at my previous club. We had incredible moments. I learned so much. He is very similar to Latin Americans, extremely passionate. It is a pleasure to work with him,” he said.
Fernandez expressed gratitude, stating, “He played a very important role in bringing me here. It is a huge pleasure to work alongside him. We both wanted this to happen so much; it wasn’t easy to be here today. But I know he made great efforts to discuss this with the club, and I am grateful for that. There were some long days, but in the end, I am here and very happy,” Fernandez concluded.
