Ukraine’s President Announces Strengthening of Zaporizhia Defense

Russian army regularly attacks Zaporizhia region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky convened a meeting with key military leaders to address the ongoing security situation in the Zaporizhia region. Among those present were Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatiy, Commander of the Air Assault Forces Oleksandr Apostol, and Commander of the Drone Forces Robert Brovdi, as well as other military officials.

President Zelensky emphasized the need to assess the current state of affairs on the frontline and to identify what is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of Ukrainian troops. “I instructed to strengthen the defense of the city and the region, particularly in directions that are critical to other cities and communities,” he stated.

Additionally, the president mentioned plans to bolster the defensive capabilities in the Donetsk region, with two military groupings to be established under the command of Heroes of Ukraine Andriy Biletsky and Denys Prokopenko.

Context

  • Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, occupying forces have seized parts of the Zaporizhia region. Reports indicate that Russian forces have regularly shelled populated areas within the region, including the regional center. According to the Zaporizhia Regional Military Administration, on August 25, Russian troops launched 935 strikes across 47 populated areas, resulting in injuries to nine individuals.
