In late March, President Vladimir Putin urged Russian businesses to support the government amid a record budget deficit. As of mid-August, according to the “Electronic Budget,” total contributions reached 383.69 billion rubles (approximately $4.5 billion). Before the meeting with business leaders, private sector donations totaled 15.6 billion rubles (about $183 million).
Over the next month, contributions increased tenfold. In May, donations surged by 45.5%, followed by a 27% rise in June, and an additional 30% for July and the first half of August.
Alexander Shokhin, president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, stated, “The fact that Russian businesses are aiding the budget is undeniable.” He noted that the contributions came not only from corporate funds but also from personal family resources.
