A recent missile strike by Russia has resulted in tragic losses in the Ukrainian villages of Radushne and Vinnytsia. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the primary targets included the capital and the Lviv region, with the onslaught involving 358 drones and missiles, notably utilizing the Zircon anti-ship missile for the first time against Vinnytsia.
Reports indicate that at least eight people have died as a result of the attacks, including six in Radushne, one in Kyiv, and one in the Poltava region. In Lviv, a direct hit on an apartment building on Vygovskogo Street resulted in numerous injuries. The city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, confirmed that while the warhead did not detonate, it still posed a significant threat, necessitating safe removal from the building. Overall, 21 buildings, along with a kindergarten and a school, sustained damage, leaving two individuals missing and 34 injured.
Radushne: Search and Recovery Efforts Underway
In Radushne, where the majority of casualties occurred, rescue workers are sifting through rubble in search of victims, including children. On July 31, a day of mourning was declared in Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro for those lost in the strike. Local authorities reported that a Russian Iskander missile, launched from Voronezh, struck a private residence belonging to the Voronov family, which had many children.
Social media has been flooded with posts, including a heartbreaking message from a user named Stalker asking about the fate of the Voronov family, identifying himself as their son. Matviy Voronov, along with his sister, is currently outside the country, as shared by their grandmother.
According to reports, damage also occurred to a neighboring house, home to a woman named Inna, who recounted hearing two explosions. After the second blast, debris began to fall on her. “I could hear everything collapsing around me. I woke up, bleeding, and everything was burning behind me… The house behind was completely destroyed, and the house with many children is gone entirely,” she told journalists.
Local media outlet Svoi | Kryvyi Rih reported the miraculous rescue of Rocky, the Voronov family’s dog, who was found alive under the debris. Videos show the dog being dug out from the ruins, highlighting it as the only survivor.
Official reports indicate that six individuals died in the Voronov home due to the missile strike, comprising three adults and three children. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, mentioned that further genetic testing might reveal more grim news.
Yuriy Demchenko, the village head, described the Voronov family as a kind, devout family raising nine children. Reports suggest that two of the older Voronov children are currently abroad, while one is serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The youngest child, a 1.5-year-old boy, is feared to have been in the house during the attack.
“They had ten children and three grandchildren. The youngest, Artem, was visiting when the attack occurred. There’s no word on Artem and his grandson. All the children were well-behaved. Daniil, the father of little Artem, graduated from the academy and is now a captain serving in the artillery. Aurika is in Germany, and Matviy is in Poland,” their grandmother disclosed.
The Voronov family moved to Radushne five years ago, with neighbors recalling their kindness and how the eldest son recently returned from the front lines. “When we saw the house burning, it was horrifying,” said another local resident. “They were a true Ukrainian family, devout people.”
