US Strikes Iran Following Death of Two Soldiers in Jordan

The United States executed a series of airstrikes against Iran on Sunday morning, asserting that these actions are a response to the deaths of two American soldiers following Iranian attacks in Jordan, according to reports from France Presse.

This marks the eighth consecutive night of attacks, targeting military objectives and the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which were responsible for the assaults on American personnel in Jordan on July 17, as stated by the US Central Command (Centcom) in a release.

Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasnim reported US strikes in Sirik, a port located near the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. The official news agency Irna also mentioned an “enemy military attack by American forces near the town of Hajiabad” in the southern province of Hormozgan.

In retaliation, the Iranian military announced it had launched explosive-laden drones targeting two military bases used by Americans in Kuwait.

General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Iranian army, warned that any US attack would encounter a “decisive and devastating response from the loyal, brave, and powerful fighters of the Iranian Armed Forces. We will impose even greater costs” than in previous conflicts, as reported by state television.

On Saturday, Centcom reported the death of two American soldiers—the first fatalities since hostilities resumed on July 7—and the disappearance of a third individual due to “Iranian drone and rocket attacks” that occurred on Friday in Jordan.

Since the onset of the war in late February, the total number of American military fatalities has now reached 16.

Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated on Saturday that repeated violations by the US of a memorandum signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States have shown that Donald Trump’s signature is “absolutely worthless and lacks credibility.”

The ongoing hostilities have escalated to unprecedented levels since a ceasefire was established in April to end the conflict triggered by the Israeli-American offensive against Iran starting on February 28.
