In a promising start to his tenure, Ricardo Sousa, the newly appointed coach of Petrolul Ploiești, guided the team to a 1-0 victory against Dinamo. Following the match, Sousa expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance during the post-game press conference.
The coach conveyed optimism for the future, having discussed the team’s objectives with President Claudiu Tudor, primarily focusing on ensuring their survival in the top league.

“This was a very important game for us. We aimed to showcase our capabilities. Time is needed, but I believe we will become a very solid team. We faced a strong opponent and encountered challenges. Just days before, I learned I wouldn’t have five players available. I stated at the outset that this would not be an excuse if we lost,” Sousa remarked.
He expressed confidence in his squad, praising their effort: “The players demonstrated they could compete and I am pleased with their performance. We each had three shots on goal, but we lost control at the beginning. We don’t have the same budget or players, which is expected, yet in my view, the victory is deserved. They may have controlled the game, but we defended well.”
Building a new team takes time, and Sousa acknowledged the challenges, saying, “It’s unrealistic to expect instant chemistry within four or five weeks. Establishing a bond where players fight for each other is not easily attained.”
He also thanked the supporters for their unwavering support, especially during the second half when they lost momentum against Dinamo: “Their energy and passion were crucial. I appreciate them; they were our 12th player.”
Looking ahead, Sousa stated, “We must fight to remain in the first league, as the president has indicated. With this mindset, I believe we will succeed. Once the match starts, the players must give their all for Petrolul!”
