Pilot Writes ‘I’m Bored’ in the Skies During Test Flight

A pilot took off from Liverpool and spent 20 minutes crafting the message “I’m Bored” in the sky, a feat tracked by flight monitoring website Flightradar24.
The humorous display was executed above an estuary in North West England, according to a report from The Guardian.
The flight data revealed that the Ravenair aircraft departed Liverpool on Saturday at 11:25 local time. During a two-hour flight, it traversed areas including Wirral, Cheshire, North Wales, and the Dee estuary, where the message was clearly visible.
The pilot skillfully traced the letters at an altitude of approximately 335 meters (1,100 feet) and a speed just under 100 knots (about 185 km/h).
Aaron Rheins, a flight tracking blogger, noted on TikTok, “I’ve never seen a pilot say they were bored by writing this in the sky.”
The flight was piloted by a 20-year-old flight instructor who was conducting a test flight after a part of the aircraft was replaced. Wayne Barrett, the company’s operations director, indicated that the pilot would not face consequences and praised his flying skills. Barrett stated, “I think the pilot was simply a bit bored as it was just a test flight. Nonetheless, it was quite an adept flight.”
He added, “He won’t have any issues, but the incident certainly drew a lot of attention from us. The plane has now safely returned to the hangar, and the pilot is taking a day off.”
Barrett confirmed that the flight was necessary for testing the replaced part, despite the route not being authorized. “I believe the part was a cylinder that needed replacement. So, when this occurs, we take the plane for a test flight to ensure everything is fine, which it was,” he further explained.
Despite the amusing message, Barrett noted that the pilot must have been very focused at that moment: “He was a bit bored, but probably had to concentrate quite a bit towards the end to write the words, so he was likely not bored at all.”
