Ukraine Urges UN Security Council to Pass Ceasefire Resolution

Ukraine calls for an urgent ceasefire resolution in the UN Security Council

During a recent session of the UN Security Council, Ukrainian representatives demanded immediate consideration of a ceasefire resolution. “The paralysis of the UN Security Council must end regarding Russia’s crimes against the international community, which still respects the rules-based international order. We again urge Council members to swiftly introduce a draft resolution for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire,” stated a Ukrainian diplomat.

This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards supporting the restoration of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine.

The diplomat also urged international partners to continue military support for Ukraine, emphasizing that this action is not an escalation but the only effective strategy to restore peace.

Context

  • On July 9, the UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting at Ukraine’s request amid ongoing Russian attacks on Kyiv and other regions. Notably, a July 6 attack on the capital resulted in 19 fatalities and 58 injuries.
