Autopsy Reveals Radu Mărginean Died from Electrocution, Not Injury

A recent autopsy report from the Arad Institute of Legal Medicine has overturned initial assumptions regarding the tragic death of former footballer Radu Mărginean, who passed away at the age of 43. Initially believed to have died from a fall resulting in a head injury or a cervical spine fracture, specialists now conclude that electrocution was the cause of his death.

According to the autopsy findings, Mărginean suffered electrocution while descending the stairs leading to the technical room of his recreational facility, MPA Pool, located on the outskirts of Arad. This room housed the pumps servicing the complex’s swimming pools, as reported by sportarad.ro.

Details of the Incident

The autopsy results are closely tied to the circumstances at the facility, where the electrical system triggered a protective mechanism during the incident, causing an interruption in the lighting for the nearby mini-football field.

Furthermore, the medical examination clarified the condition of Mărginean’s face, which bore bruises when medical teams arrived and attempted resuscitation unsuccessfully.

“It was getting dark, and for the first time in those years we played there, the lights went out on one side of the field. I shouted for Adi Bizău who was on the sidelines, ‘Run to Nea Nicu and tell him the lights are out.’ At 9:25 PM, Adi returned visibly shocked, saying, ‘They are resuscitating Radu. He collapsed next to the pool,’” recalls journalist Lucian Dănilă, describing the tragic events of Tuesday night.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves through the sports community. Radu Mărginean, a former youth international, played for several major teams in Romanian football, including UTA, FC Bihor, CFR Cluj, and Gloria Bistrița.

Following the incident, forensic experts began investigations to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the former athlete’s death. Meanwhile, his family and friends are preparing to pay their last respects during a wake service at the chapel of the Fântânele cemetery. Concurrently, the family has decided to close the facility where the accident occurred for an indefinite period.

Radu Mărginean earned 19 caps representing Romania’s youth national teams, including 5 at U16, 6 at U19, and 8 at U21 levels.

During his time with the U21 national team, he was part of a generation that included notable players such as Marius Constantin, Gabriel Tamaș, Lucian Goian, Cosmin Moți, Ianis Zicu, Romeo Surdu, Lucian Burdujan, Adrian Cristea, and Răzvan Cociș.

Throughout his career, Mărginean played 135 matches in the first division, representing clubs like FC Bihor, UTA Arad, CFR Cluj, and Gloria Bistrița.
