Scotland vs. Brazil Match Faces Storm Threat Ahead of Kickoff

The highly anticipated Group C match of the 2026 World Cup between Scotland and Brazil may face interruptions due to an impending storm. This follows a previous match, France vs. Iraq, which was halted for over two hours due to adverse weather conditions.

The severe weather alert has already impacted the match in Philadelphia, forcing the referee to delay the start of the second half in the previous game by more than two hours. According to American protocols, any lightning within 13 kilometers of the stadium necessitates a 30-minute pause.

Numerous interruptions occurred during the France-Iraq game, with players remaining in the locker rooms for nearly two hours as spectators were evacuated from the stands. The match was halted at 1-0 in favor of France at halftime and resumed after the Norway vs. Senegal game, which ended with a score of 3-2, showcasing Kylian Mbappe’s notable performance.

Authorities in Miami have already issued warnings for tonight, as the match is currently scheduled to kick off at 6:00 PM local time amid storm forecasts. If lightning affects Hard Rock Stadium, the Scotland vs. Brazil match could face an indefinite suspension.

Clarke: “We Have a Strategy in Mind to Handle the Situation”

Due to the extended delays, players from both teams have had to undergo another warm-up session. Scotland’s coach, Steve Clarke, revealed that his team has a plan prepared in case of a match interruption.

During a pre-match press conference, Clarke stated, “This is the first time it has happened in this tournament. I believe we have been somewhat fortunate with the weather so far. Looking at tomorrow’s forecast, it is possible there will be some disruptions caused by rain. We have a strategy in mind to handle the situation. Of course, we don’t know how long the delay will last. You must wait 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, so delays should not continue indefinitely.”

He added that if a delay occurs, the hope is for it to be brief, assuring that they are prepared for such circumstances.
