Keir Starmer Resigns as UK Prime Minister, Prioritizes Family

Keir Starmer has declared his resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stating he wishes to dedicate more time to his family. In his address, he reflected on whether he remains the best candidate to lead the Labour Party into future elections.
Starmer noted, “I have heard the answer from my party to that question and I accept it with dignity.” He emphasized that every decision he made was aimed at prioritizing the nation he loves.
Earlier today, Starmer spoke with King Charles III to inform him of his decision. He also reached out to the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party to request a timeline for the leadership election, suggesting candidate nominations open on July 9, with the process concluding before the summer parliamentary recess.
This plan indicates that a new party leader should be chosen by the time Parliament reconvenes in September. Until then, Starmer will continue to serve as Prime Minister.
After completing what he described as the “most significant work for the country,” Starmer mentioned he would focus on his “most important job” as a husband and father.
