USR and UDMR, negative reactions to Adrian Veștea: “It has no legitimacy” / “Our votes cannot be relied on”

The critical reactions to the appointment of Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister continued on Monday, both from the USR and the UDMR, two formations whose votes could count in the process of investing the new government.

The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu (USR), told Digi24 that she sees in Veștea's appointment the prospect of returning to a “USL 3.0” formula and stated that she would not support such an executive.
“The problem we have, as I see the discussion, is that a Vestea government will be a government that will go to USL 3.0Buzoianu said.
She claimed that Romanians have already rejected such a political formula in the elections.
“Romanians had USL 3.0 on their ballot a year ago. They had this option not once, they had this option twice. Romanians decided without any ambiguity, with millions of votes, that they do not want USL 3.0“, said the minister.
According to her, such a government “it has no legitimacy” and does not represent “an option for Romania“.
USR: We no longer enter the government together with the PSD
Diana Buzoianu reiterated USR's position that the party will not participate in a government alongside PSD.
“We have clearly said that together with the PSD we will no longer enter the government“, she declared.
The minister also rejected the statements made by Adrian Veștea, according to which he received messages of support from some USR members and parliamentarians.
“He has not received any messages. Maybe he was congratulated for the nominationBuzoianu said.
She added that USR parliamentarians unanimously decided not to support the government proposed by Eugen Tomac and that she sees no reason for this position to change in the coming days.
Buzoianu also stated that he does not believe that a Vestea government will continue the reform program proposed by Ilie Bolojan.
“If Mr. Ilie Bolojan's government program will continue, I suspect that PSD was not so happy todayshe said.
In his opinion, such an executive risks fueling the growth of the extremist current and returning Romania to the situation during the government led by Marcel Ciolacu.
Asked if she would agree to remain Minister of the Environment in a government led by Adrian Veștea, Diana Buzoianu answered negatively.
UDMR: We don't know what Adrian Veștea is relying on
For his part, the leader of the UDMR deputies, Csoma Botond, stated that the formation has not yet made a decision regarding the support of a government led by Adrian Veștea.
“UDMR can't count on votes yet at this point“, he said.
Csoma stated that the UDMR first wants a discussion with the designated prime minister and that he does not understand on what basis he claims to have a parliamentary majority.
“I don't understand where he got the figure of 240. If Tomac or Nicușor Dan insured it, I don't know what it is based on”, said the leader of the UDMR deputies to Digi24.
He added that no one has discussed with the formation so far about supporting the future government.
“No one discussed with us, the 30 votes cannot be relied on, because we did not make a decision”, said Csoma.
“We don't want to take part in the split of the PNL”
The leader of the UDMR deputies stated that the appointment of Adrian Veștea was a surprise and insisted that his party does not want to be involved in the internal conflicts in the PNL.
“I don't want to speculate and we don't want to take part in attempts to split the PNL and internal looting“, he declared.
Csoma also questioned Adrian Veștea's statement that he would continue Ilie Bolojan's government program.
“I find this statement of Mr. Vestea interesting. I don't know if it reflects reality. I can't believe Mr. Vestea. How could they collaborate with PSD if they were not satisfied with Bolojan's program?“, said the UDMR leader.
He also said that the Prime Minister-designate's statements regarding the existence of a parliamentary majority fall under “in the register of political marketing“.
