Doctors at the Regional Clinical Hospital helped a 79-year-old patient who had a large stone the size of a quail egg formed in her bile ducts.
The woman suffered from cholelithiasis for many years. She had previously had her gallbladder removed, but stones can appear after such an operation if they form in the bile ducts. Over the following years, the patient had stones removed several times using an endoscopic procedure. Due to repeated interventions, she developed a scar narrowing of the common bile duct. The flow of bile was disrupted, and a large stone appeared in this area.
The woman began to experience constant abdominal pain, nausea and loss of appetite. According to operating surgeon Pavel Sobolev, in this situation the only treatment option was to create a new path for the outflow of bile. To do this, doctors connected the common bile duct to the small intestine.
The operation went smoothly. The postoperative period was without complications. A month later, an ultrasound showed no pathological changes. After treatment, the patient's appetite improved and she began to gain weight. In the future, she is scheduled to undergo a follow-up MRI in 6 months.
