Argentina's national football team defeated Iceland 3-0 in a friendly match at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This was the last check of Lionel Scaloni's students before the start of the World Championship.

In addition to the convincing victory, which gives the reigning world champion an excellent morale, the match was also marked by the return of Lionel Messi, who came off the bench and scored his 117th goal in the national team shirt, after a phase also created by him, just 45 seconds away from being introduced on the field.

Argentina starts the World Cup with excellent morale

Valentin Barco in the 8th minute, Lionel Messi from the penalty in the 72nd minute and Thiago Almada in the 87th minute scored for the victory of the world champions.

Iceland created the first scoring opportunity of the match as early as the 4th minute, but Mikael Egill Ellertsson's shot went over the crossbar.

Argentina took the lead on their first chance. In the 8th minute, following a scuffle in the box, the ball reached Valentin Barco, who, with a volley shot, unstoppably sent it into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Until the end of the first half, the Argentines wasted two more good opportunities through Jose Lopez and Nico Paz, but in both cases goalkeeper Elias Rafn Olafsson intervened decisively.

And in the second half, the world champions were the more active team, when they hit the bar twice. First, luck turned for Alexis Mac Allister in the 62nd minute when he sent the ball into the right post, and then Lautaro Martinez also had no chance.

In the 70th minute, Lionel Messi entered the field and his appearance had an immediate impact on the game. With a superb pass, he released Lautaro Martinez behind the defence. The striker was fouled by the goalkeeper for a penalty and Messi converted the penalty kick for 2-0.

The final score of 3-0 was set up by Thiago Almada in the 87th minute after completing a quick counter-attack. This was Argentina's last preparation test before the World Cup, where it will debut on June 17, from 4:00, against Algeria.
