Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, who completed her performances at Roland Garros 2026 on June 4, commented on her defeat in the semifinals to the “neutral” Russian Mirra Andreeva. During the press conference after the match, Kostyuk first of all talked about her victories. The video was published on the YouTube channel of the competition organizers.
Journalists asked Kostyuk what achievements she would take with her after participating in the competition.
“First of all, my winning streak. I’ll take it with me to the grave,” she replied. “Yes, I’m very happy with my clay season. Just one loss. If someone told me this a few months ago, I would never have believed it. So I’m very happy.”
She explained: before the match with the Russian, she was a little worried.

“But, as I said earlier, I don't care who's on the other side of the net. I just go out and play the match. Today, everything that could have worked out in her favor worked out in her favor. And everything that could have gone wrong for me, didn't work out for me. Days like this happen, and I accept it. I've already had enough hard and bad days to know that they pass. Losing a match at any stage of the tournament is not the worst thing in the world. It was my first semi-final, and I got this one experience. Next time I play in the semifinals, maybe I’ll feel better or differently – I don’t know,” she added.
The tennis player noted: this was not her best match. She added that the Russian woman, on the contrary, had obvious advantages.
“I think this court suits her best out of all the tournaments there are. Her style of play, these conditions suit her very well. The wind helped her too. I didn't start the match in the best way, but these things happen. Everybody wins and everybody loses – it's part of the game. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Yes, she played well, consistently, hardly made any mistakes. I made more mistakes. She obviously felt confident. Served a lot better than usual. I couldn't do much because the court I was incredibly slow, and she got almost all the balls. Because of this, it seemed to me that I needed to take more risks. That’s all,” Kostyuk explained.
