The aggressor country Russia has gained an advantage over NATO countries in conducting combat operations using drones. The head of the Latvian armed forces, Kaspars Pudans, stated this in an interview with the Financial Times, published on June 4.
According to the Latvian brigadier general, the Kremlin may try to take advantage of the “window of opportunity” before the end of 2028 to invade the Baltic countries.
Pudans explained that Moscow’s advantage lies not in the availability of more advanced technologies, but in the ability to mass produce drones and quickly adapt them in war conditions.
The general also added that most European army modernization programs will come into force no earlier than 2029. This, in his opinion, can be taken advantage of by the Russian Federation.
Among the factors, Pudans also named the presidency of Donald Trump, who will remain in office for another two years. He added that it is unknown whether Trump's successor will be “as constructive.”
