Cristian Pomohaci, remanded in custody in the case in which he is accused of rape of a minor and sexual assault
The singer Cristian Pomohaci, a former priest, was placed in preventive detention on Thursday, in the case in which he is accused of rape of a minor and sexual assault, the victims being boys under the age of 16, according to News.ro.
“This evening, June 4, 2026, the Târgu Mureş Court accepted the proposal made by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Târgu Mureş Court, ordering the measure of preventive arrest for 30 days against the 57-year-old man, investigated for committing the crimes of rape committed against a minor and sexual assault”, announces the Mureş County Police Inspectorate.
Prosecutors' accusations
According to the investigators, in the period 2024-2026, he would have taken advantage of the state of vulnerability of some boys, maintaining sexual relations with them, in exchange for sums of money and other material benefits.
The victims were under 16 years old, at the time of committing the acts, say sources from the investigation.
According to them, there is the suspicion that, in addition to the young people who filed a complaint against Pomohaci, there are other victims who did not denounce the former priest.
On Wednesday, under the coordination and supervision of the case prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Târgu Mureş Court, the policemen of the Mureş Criminal Investigation Service made two house searches, in the municipality of Târgu Mureş, in a criminal case regarding crimes against sexual freedom and integrity. Following the activities carried out and the probationary period administered, Pomohaci was detained.
Popular music performer Cristian Pomohaci was accused of trying to sexually corrupt a teenager, but his actions were time-barred, so he escaped a conviction. Pomohaci, who was a priest, was canonized in 2017.
