“I'm rich, I have two Daniels!” » Dan Șucu officially presented Pancu at Rapid, in an evening marked by the gallery's protest

Rapid Bucharest presented its new head coach on Friday evening. Daniel Pancu returns to Giulesti after six years and signed a contract valid until the summer of 2028, but the event organized by the club was overshadowed by the protest of a part of the gallery.
Supporters were invited to the North Lawn to welcome one of the most loved people in the club's history, but a large part of the fans refused to enter the stadium and stayed outside the arena. They were upset by the strict control at the gates of the stadium, one identical to the Super League matches.
Before the press conference, Dan Șucu went down among the supporters and tried to convince them to participate in the event, but without success.
Dan Șucu: “I am rich, I have two Daniels”
The majority shareholder of Rapid opened the press conference and explained the reasons why the club chose the Daniel Pancu – Marius Bilașco tandem. Şucu spoke about the importance of leaders in a dressing room and about the model he sees at both Rapid and Genoa.
“My boss, Mr. Victor Angelescu, has delegated me tonight to greet you and officially say welcome back to our two colleagues, Pancone and Marius (nr Bilașco), welcome back and God help.
I am rich, I have two Dani, Danieli, a Daniel in Genoa (no Daniele De Rossi) and a Daniel in Bucharest. Both successful, both last year they did something exceptional and my hope is that this year they do something even more.
What did they do? They managed, as is their nature, to be leaders both on the pitch and in the dressing room in front of all the boys. They managed to get the boys they coached to respect them, to love them, to fight for them, to do their best to make their coach feel respected and loved.
This is what they have achieved and I hope with all my heart that we will succeed in this at Rapid. What I still see and like very much at Genoa is an exceptional collaboration between the coach and the sporting director and that's what I wish you both, a good collaboration and let's do the best we can for the club.
Everything for the club, that's what we care about. We do not exist as individuals, we are not players, we are not managers, it is not me. We are always new. We, not me.
Moreover, both love to promote young people. None of them see youth as a disease, they see it as an opportunity for development.
Welcome, gentlemen! I'm not staying here anymore, at my age you can't talk freely to everyone, I'm confusing you, I'm going to deal with the things that help you, not that confuse you. God help!”.
Marius Bilașco: “We have to stop watching how others enjoy themselves”
Rapid's sporting director spoke about Pancu's return and the club's goal to become competitive again in the fight for European trophies and cups.
“It's an important moment for me as well, I'm sure it's also for the Rapid club.
We are all happy that we were able to bring Daniel back to Rapid. I think he is the right person to make us speedsters happy at the end of the season, because there were a few seasons where he suffered at the end.
We will do everything we can to finally have new moments of joy, not just to watch on TV how others are happy. I think it's the most important thing for us, and that's how we'll wake up every morning motivated to succeed.
I can't say more, it's Daniel's moment and he can tell you more about this moment and about today.”
Daniel Pancu: “It's an extraordinary day, we've been waiting for it for a long time”
At the first official contact with the press after returning to Giulești, Pancu spoke about the emotions of returning home and about the new project he is starting at Rapid.
“Yes, I have known Bilașco for many years, we played together at Rapid, I worked at CFR and I have a feeling that the understanding between us will be a good one, both professionally and personally, and we will somehow remain in the history of Rapid with a performance.
It's an extraordinary day, I've been waiting for it for a long time. I also said the other day, we trained the Rapid in difficult conditions, very difficult, I mean the infrastructure and the turbulent period after our rebirth practically, which took place in 2017.
Some call it karma, I call it the law of compensation. At the moment Rapid is a complete club and ready for performance.
The most important thing is the unity we were talking about the other day: supporters, patronage, club, team, which from my point of view will make us very difficult to beat”, were Pancu's first words.
Pancu announces discipline and transfers: “Rapid needs fresh blood”
The new coach of Giulești sent a clear message to the locker room and explained that the team will undergo important changes this summer.
“My goals will always be more daring than the club's, even if there is a goal in the contract; that is strictly contractual.
I think a fair assessment of next season can only be made after the transfer campaign is over, because Rapid needs fresh blood, new players and players ready to perform, not just to play in the Super League play-offs.
It will certainly be a difficult year, but at the same time, by feeling, I think it will be a year at the end of which we will have satisfaction.
I happened to meet three Rapid players in the mall on the same day and one of them said to me: «Mister, you have to come and punch the table».
What mass punch? Only if we get drunk do we punch the table. To me it means very strict rules and discipline. You have to give everything for the team”.
Pancu's personal objective: the title with Rapid
Although the first official goal is qualifying for the play-offs, Daniel Pancu admitted that he dreams of much more in his new mandate.
“My personal goal is to win the League 1 championship as well, not just the League 3 as coach of Rapid. The first goal is to qualify for the play-offs.
I can't wait to work at a paid club. If I've handled tougher conditions, I don't think I'll have any problems from that point of view.
I would like, if there are players who want to leave CFR, either free, or who would like to come and we have the possibility to take them, yes, one or two, but they are not the ones that appeared in the newspaper”, Pancu said.
At the end of the conference, Pancu ended on a relaxed note, jokingly asking the journalists about the evening's derby: “Has Dinamo – FCSB started? Is the stadium close”.
