Attendees will be greeted with 2,000 free masks to enter the spectacular carnival atmosphere. The carnival takes place between May 28 and June 1, 2026, and access is free throughout the event.
Sighișoara, the last permanently inhabited medieval fortress in Europe, today kicks off one of the most spectacular events of the beginning of summer: “Carnival in the cetate”, the festival that transforms the medieval center into a space of music, costumes, street entertainment and experiences for all ages.
For five days, between May 28 and June 1, thousands of tourists are expected in the Medieval Citadel of Sighișoara for live concerts, dance shows, magic, activities for children and moments of animation that will bring a vibrant atmosphere to the historic streets of the citadel.
To enhance the carnival experience, organizers will provide free 2,000 carnival masks to participantsinviting the public to fully enter the spirit of the festival and transform the citadel into a true spectacle of color and energy.
The festival is organized by the Association of Local Entrepreneurs from Sighișoara, with the support of the Sighișoara City Hall and the Mureș County Council, and aims to bring together tourists, the local community and artists in a unique urban experience, held in one of the most beloved medieval cities in Europe.
Five days of concerts, shows and activities for all ages
The festival program includes live concerts, DJ sets, themed shows, street animation and magic shows, in a mix that turns “Carnival in the citadel” into a festival dedicated to the whole family.
Among the artists and bands that will take the stage are Robin and the Backstabbers, Snails, Bere Gratis, NIDAL, Nicolae Gheza & Guest, VOG, ZYMPHONIX and Flama.
The festival starts today, from 17:00, with the official opening ceremony and a dance performance that will enliven the center of the fortress.
At the same time, the organizers have also prepared a special area for children – “Kids Land” – with daily access, where the little ones will have creative workshops, games, inflatable slides and dedicated shows.
Festival atmosphere in the heart of Transylvania
“Carnival in the citadel” brings to Sighisoara a special combination between the medieval charm of the citadel and the energy of a modern festival, at a time when the city is becoming one of the most animated tourist destinations in Transylvania.
“We want every visitor to feel the energy of this place and leave here with the memory of a special experience. Carnival is about joy, music, people, color and the way Sighisoara comes alive these days“, said Dmitrii Todirică, president of the Association of Local Entrepreneurs from Sighisoara.
All activities within the festival are free of charge.
