Andrew Robertson is preparing for his final game in a Liverpool shirt and the Scotland defender has spoken emotionally about the moment that completely changed his Anfield career.

Liverpool visit Brentford on Sunday in a game that will mark Robertson's departure from the club he played for for nine years.

The Scot revealed that his start at Liverpool was extremely difficult and that a chat with former manager Jurgen Klopp completely changed his course.

“I was so worried I didn't know what to say to Klopp”

Transferred in the summer of 2017 from Hull City for around £8 million, Robertson needed months to establish himself at Liverpool.

Until December 2017 he had only started three games, but later became one of the main men of the team that conquered the Champions League and the Premier League under Klopp's command.

According to sportal.bg, the defender has now recounted the key moment of his transformation.

“I was extremely emotional. I was so worried that I didn't know what to say to Klopp. I've never been the most confident, but wherever I've been, I've always wanted to play.

It was October when this discussion took place between us. I plucked up the courage and asked Klopp what I had to do to start playing.

The next day I went to practice with the idea that I would do everything he told me. If I fail, so be it. But after that talk, everything fell into place. None of us looked backRobertson said.

The game with Brentford could also represent the last game at Anfield for Alisson Becker or Joe Gomez, players who were part of the golden generation built by Klopp. Also, Mohamed Salah announced his separation from the “cormorant” club.

Robertson admitted that the split will be an extremely emotional one.

“I'm happy I won't be the center of attention tomorrow. That's what I was worried about. I think our Egyptian friend (no Salah) will draw more attention to himself.

But this parting will be emotional. I hope the crowd will also give a special ovation to Jordan Henderson for everything he has done for this club over the years.

I'm leaving with no regrets, because it was a happy nine years for me. Liverpool is a unique club and I gave everything for it”the Scottish defender also said.

Liverpool will not extend his contract

Andrew Robertson's contract expires this summer and Liverpool have decided not to offer him a new deal.

During his nine years at Anfield, the left-back became one of the club's most important players and one of Scotland's most respected captains.
