One year after the launch of Wolt in Romania, the data shows Romanians' appetite for comfort food, fast everyday shopping and the growing interest in the retail area, supported by partnerships such as Carrefour Express and BIPA. From quick lunches to large orders for groups, including o restaurant orders over 7,500 lei and one supermarket basket with 111 productsWolt quickly became part of the daily routine of the inhabitants of large urban centers in Romania.
Culinary map of Romania
In the first year, Wolt consolidated its presence in the large urban centers in Romania. The most active markets were Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov and Iași, followed by Sibiu, Craiova, Bacău, Pitesti and Arad. The growth was supported both by the expansion of the selection available in the application and by the interest of users for fast services, integrated into the daily routine.
At the national level, the most ordered categories in restaurants confirm Romanians' preference for familiar and easy-to-order options:
-
Burgers: about 1.5 million products
-
Potatoes / side dishes / sauces: about 1.3 million products
-
Doner / kebab / wraps / shaorma: about 850,000 products
-
Pizza: about 221,000 products
-
Soups and broths: about 150,000 products
Although the burger was the most ordered dish nationally, local data shows differences between major cities.
-
In Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca and Iași, the most ordered product on the entire platform was the McPuișor burger.
-
Brașov has gone out of the burger trend, and the large chicken shaorma has become the favorite product of users.
-
Cluj-Napoca stood out as the city of burgers, with over half a million burgers ordered, almost double that of Bucharest, where the number of orders reached almost 300,000.
Expanding the Wolt retail portfolio
Wolt's first year in Romania also marked an important change in the way users make quick refill purchases. Romanians are increasingly using Wolt for quick everyday purchases, from water, bananas, milk and bread, to fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers or parsley. Although water was among the most ordered items in most cities, in Iasi, bananas took first place in the retail category.
This trend is also supported by the expansion of Wolt's retail portfolio:
-
Carrefour Express: 193 stores will be available in the app by May 28, in 29 cities, with in-store prices.
-
BEEP: The Austrian beauty and care brand has officially launched on Wolt, in Bucharest.
Subscriptions and frequency of use
Genius and Wolt+ subscribers generated more than half of the total activity on the platform, and their presence was even stronger in the retail segment, where they accounted for the majority of food and care orders.
“The first year of Wolt in Romania showed us how quickly a service can become part of the daily routine, when it responds to real needs. People use Wolt for meals, but also for quick shopping, often for the basic products they need at the moment. This first year has been about building a strong local presence and about responsible scaling. Next, we focus on bringing even more value to users, partners and couriers,” said Alexandru Ștefan, Head of Account Management and Country Lead, Wolt Romania.
Since the launch in Romania, athe Wolt app has been installed nearly 5 million times.
