Krasnoyarsk residents were told when snoring can be dangerous

Krasnoyarsk residents were told why snoring should not always be considered a harmless problem. This was reported by Rospotrebnadzor in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Somnologist Irina Raginienė explained that snoring itself is a sound phenomenon. Sometimes it is associated with relaxation of the muscles of the soft palate during sleep and primarily disturbs others.

“If there is no stopping breathing, then it is not dangerous for the person himself. It's just that the people around you don't sleep well. But if there are pauses in breathing, this is dangerous for health, because during them the level of oxygen in the blood sharply decreases,” said the specialist.

According to the somnologist, it is especially important to pay attention to loud intermittent snoring, when a person first snores and then seems to stop breathing for a while. This condition can increase the risk of dangerous sleep disorders, including heart attack, stroke, hypertension, or hypertensive crisis.

With such symptoms, the specialist advises to consult a doctor. A sleep specialist can make a diagnosis using special equipment that monitors breathing and oxygen levels throughout the night.
