Tudor Chirilă's message a few hours before Alexandra Căpitănescu sang in the Eurovision final: “The fact that it is a politicized contest should unite us and we should maintain her chances by voting”

Romania's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final received a new message of support from Tudor Chirilă. The lead singer of the band VAMA appealed to the public to keep his chances in the contest by voting.
- To get the best possible ranking in the final, Alexandra Căpitănescu needs the votes of Romanians abroad.
- The public in Romania can support their favorites through short messages or online, but according to the official regulations of the Eurovision contest, they cannot vote for the representative of their own country.
The young artist became known in 2023, when she won the “Vocea României” show, being coached by Tudor Chirilă.
Chirilă wrote, on Saturday, in a post on Facebook that the artist “achieved several performances”, regardless of the result in the final.
“Whether you like her song or not, rock has become mainstream again, which is something in a country dominated by other genres. She qualified Romania for the finals, this seemed impossible a year ago,” wrote Tudor Chirilă.
The lead singer of the band VAMA asked the public to vote for her in the competition.
“For me, Eurovision has never been a musical landmark, but the performance of scenography, video production, lighting design is impressive. And precisely the fact that it is a “politicized” contest should unite us and maintain its chances in the contest by voting”, said the artist.
“The strongest Romanian rock voice of the last 20 years”
In the same message, the artist described Alexandra Căpitănescu as “the strongest Romanian rock voice of the last twenty years”.
“Returning to Alexandra, it's simple, a 22-year-old girl, hard-working, who goes to college and works nights to keep up, opens her mouth and the strongest Romanian rock voice of the last twenty years is heard. Her merit is that she resisted the promises of mainstream songs that would have taken her on the radio, but would have alienated her from who she wants to be and what she wants to sing”, also transmitted by Tudor Chirilă.
Romania is fighting for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 trophy on Saturday evening, on the stage of the competition organized in Vienna, where Alexandra Căpitănescu will perform the song “Choke Me” from the 24th position in the order of the contest.
The 22-year-old artist, originally from Galați, attracted attention after the semi-final with her rock-influenced performance and is among the contestants watched in Saturday night's final. The AFP agency noted after the qualification that Alexandra Căpitănescu climbed into the top 5 of the favorites, after she was ranked 8th before the semi-final.
