Nicușor Dan, about a possible renomination of Ilie Bolojan as prime minister: “I don't want a government that will give birth to another crisis”

Asked about the possibility of renaming a government led by Ilie Bolojan, President Nicușor Dan said on Friday, May 15, that he does not want an executive “which will give birth to another crisis”.

“We will have discussions on Monday (not with the parties), according to the Constitution. We will probably have discussions on Tuesday or Wednesday with the other people in Parliament who are not represented by the parties”, sent the head of state.

Asked if he gave up the idea of ​​a technocrat prime minister, Nicușor Dan stated that he would ask the parties that come to the consultations “what will be the majority”, “whether we are talking about full government, minority government or technocrat”.

Asked if a possible renaming of a government led by Ilie Bolojan would represent “an experiment”, Nicusor Dan stated that he does not want “a government that will give birth to another crisis”.

About the possibility of restoring the Government without USR, the head of state said that he will listen to the positions of all parties and that the essential question is what will be the parliamentary majority capable of supporting the future executive, stressing that the answers must take into account “parliamentary reality”.

President Nicusor Dan convened on Monday, May 18, consultations with the parties and parliamentary formations, with a view to appointing the prime minister.

Consultations will take place according to the following schedule:

  • 09:00 – Social Democratic Party (PSD);
  • 10:00 a.m. – Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR);
  • 11:00 a.m. – National Liberal Party (PNL);
  • 12:00 – Union Save Romania (USR);
  • 13:00 – Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR);
  • 14:00 – Parliamentary Group of National Minorities;
  • 15:00 – SOS Romania Party (SOS);
  • 16:00 – Young People's Party (POT).

Asked on Tuesday, May 12, in a press conference, about the options analyzed in Cotroceni, Nicușor Dan stated that he will not nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister without having the guarantee that he can obtain the necessary support in Parliament for the investiture of the government.

“Variants of a government supported by a majority in Parliament are relatively few, and I'm not going to do experiments in which we propose prime ministers and let them see if they get a majority or not.” said Nicușor Dan.
