Border policemen from the Giurgiu Border Police Territorial Inspectorate – Giurgiu Border Police Sector stopped a minibus registered in Bulgaria, driven by a Bulgarian citizen, on DN5 for checks.
Besides the driver, there were eight other passengers in the vehicle, all Bulgarian citizens.
As a result of the control, 47 exotic birds were discovered inside the minibus, in special transport boxes, for which the Bulgarian citizens could not present documents of origin or transport.
The spokeswoman of ITPF Giurgiu, Raluca Stanciu, mentioned that the Bulgarian authorities were informed about what happened, and in the matter the representatives of the Giurgiu Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate were requested, who ordered that the transported birds are not allowed to enter the territory of Romania.
“The birds were alive, we do not know their species, their origin and whether they were to satisfy a hobby of the owners or for sale, but because Romanian legislation does not allow their transport without documents of provenance on the territory of our country, the eight passengers and the driver were returned to the territory of Bulgaria for further investigations by the authorities of the neighboring country”said Raluca
