Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said fake photos of her in lingerie created using artificial intelligence were being circulated online and warned of the dangers of deepfakes. She published the corresponding post on May 5 on the social network X.
Meloni accused her political opponents of distributing fake photos. At the same time, she ironically noted that the authors of the photo “even greatly improved” it.
“But the fact remains: now they really use anything to attack and invent lies,” the prime minister wrote.
Meloni stressed that the problem goes far beyond her personal situation, since deepfakes can be used to manipulate and disinformation against anyone.
“I can protect myself. Many others cannot. Therefore, one rule must always apply: check before you believe, and think before you spread. Because today it happened to me, and tomorrow it can happen to anyone,” the official added.
