How Meryl Streep Forced The Devil Wears Prada Producers To Double Her Salary With One Word

Winner of three Oscars recently revealed that he used an extremely bold strategy to secure his income in Hollywood, according to Business Insider and the BBC.

In an interview on the Today show alongside her co-stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, Meryl Streep recently revealed that she initially turned down the offer to star in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, but it wasn't because she didn't want the part.

The four actors reunited on set to promote the release of their new film, the highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2.

“I knew it was going to be a hit,” Streep told host Jenna Bush Hager. “The script was great. They called me, they made me an offer, and I said, 'No.'

“I thought, 'I'm 56. It took me this long to understand that I can do this,'” said the actress, who is now 76. She won three Academy Awards for her roles in “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophia's Choice” and “The Iron Lady.”

The original Devil Wears Prada was officially released in theaters in 2006 and grossed over $326 million worldwide. Its sequel debuted on the big screens on May 1, 2026.
