The State Services portal lists the reasons why a student can take academic leave.

According to the Saratov 24 TV channel, it is allowed to suspend studies for a year, and in case of illness or military service – for two years. The law does not limit the number of academic leaves; after completion, the student returns to study under the same conditions.
The list of reasons also includes family circumstances (for example, caring for a sick relative or the birth of a child), preparation for sports competitions, long-term business trips for research, temporary inability to pay for studies.
To apply for leave, you need to submit an application addressed to the head of the educational institution and attach supporting documents. Leave for medical reasons and due to military service is granted by the rector, in other cases the decision is made by a special commission. The leave order must be issued no later than 12 working days.
