A man was found dead in the “AufSchalke” toilets by a maid. The 2. Bundesliga club issued an official statement announcing that the person in the stadium had died of a cardiac arrest and had been there for several days before being discovered.
FC Schalke 04 have confirmed that an investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at the stadium in Gelsenkirchen. The 65-year-old was found by a cleaning lady in the toilets of the VELTINS-Arena (formerly AufSchalke) on Thursday.
The discovery was made during a routine toilet inspection, after which the police were called. Authorities quickly arrived and cordoned off the area while authorities began their investigation.
The BILD tabloid revealed that the man is believed to have suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest before collapsing. He was reportedly attending an event at the stadium last Wednesday before being found a day later.

The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing, and the club has notified the competent authorities. Therefore, Schalke 04 will not publish any further information. The club is supporting the investigation with all available means.”
Schalke are top of Germany's second division and hoping to return to the top flight after three years, seven points clear of third place with three games remaining. The Gelsenkirchen side have not played a home game since their 4-1 win over Preussen Munster on Sunday, April 19.
