Ronnie O'Sullivan (50), one of the best snooker players in history, was asked by journalists if his move to Dubai was to escape taxes or for other reasons. The Brit replied that he feels very good in Dubai and that this is the only reason.
Ronnie O'Sullivan is in Sheffield, where the World Snooker Championship takes place from 18 April to 4 May. The total prize fund is £2,395,000 and the winner will collect £500,000.
In the inaugural round, O'Sullivan beat China's He Guoqiang 10-2 to reach the last 16 of the tournament. Next, the 50-year-old player will duel with Scotsman John Higgins, who was beaten 10-7 by Ali Carter.
The match is played on a “best of 25 frames” system and will take place on April 25, 26 and 27 respectively at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield. The winner will meet either Chris Wakelin (England) or Neil Robertson (Australia) in the “quarters”.
Ronnie O'Sullivan: 'I didn't move for any reason other than I feel good where I live'
Journalists took advantage of O'Sullivan's presence in the UK to ask him about the reason for his move to Dubai. They suspected that the seven-time world champion chose to go to the Gulf to avoid taxes.
“Rocket” denied this and stated that he feels good in Dubai.
“I didn't move for any other reason than I feel good where I live. I love it in Dubai, I love it in Ireland too. I didn't leave for any particular reason. I come and go when I want. Now I consider them my homes, so I commute between them, and of course I also end up in China, Hong Kong. During the tournament I will not fly anywhere, I will stay here”, said O'Sullivan, quoted by as.ro.
In June 2025, he married Laila Rouass and that summer they moved to Dubai.
