Zondacrypto – the largest Polish cryptocurrency exchange has serious liquidity problems
According to recent media reports Zondacrypto – the largest Polish cryptocurrency exchange may have serious liquidity problems. “Gazeta Wyborcza” was the first to report these problems to the platform. Her reports showed that the company had stopped paying out money to its customers.
The crisis surrounding the Zondacrypto platform is constantly deepening, and subsequent exchange users are reporting problems with withdrawing funds. Moreover, some clubs sponsored by the stock exchange have not received due payments for months.
On Friday, Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek announced that the prosecutor's office had initiated criminal proceedings against the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange. This concerns suspicion of fraud and money laundering. The head of the Ministry of Justice also touched on the unexplained disappearance of Sylwester Suszek and pointed to irregularities in the takeover of the company by his partner.
The prosecutor's office made this decision on the same day when the Sejm failed for the second time to reject the presidential veto of the bill on the crypto-assets market. 243 MPs voted to reject the veto, 191 were against and three abstained. 263 votes of support were needed to pass the bill. The lack of an act means that the Polish Financial Supervision Authority still has no tools to suspend public offerings of cryptocurrencies or interrupt their progress.
