— The scale of the failure is significant. As for the consequences, it is not only about the need to replace one or two people, said the Fidesz leader in an interview in the “Patriot” program. In Orban's assessment, the right wing in Hungary “cannot continue to function as before” and needs “a complete renewal.”

“The pain has been joined by emptiness”

The politician took responsibility for the defeat as Fidesz leader. As he noted, he had already started the process of renewal in the party, intending, among other things, to: convene a congress to elect new leadership. According to him, the process of renewing the right wing may end at the end of summer or the beginning of autumn.

As Orban added, the campaign of the Fidesz-KDNP coalition was based on the assumption that the turnout in the parliamentary elections that took place on Sunday would be similar to that in the previous votes. As it turned out, the turnout was record-breaking and reached almost 80%.

— On Sunday it was only pain, on Monday it was joined by emptiness, said the head of the Hungarian government. — I'm trying to recover from this shock, he added, although he admitted that “after the defeat, instead of feeling older, I suddenly felt younger; this pain released enormous energy in me.”

Orban said that time will show whether the vote of several million Hungarians who voted for the TISHA party was a good decision. – We will never support against our own country – added the politician. He also admitted that Peter Magyar's message was stronger.

The prime minister also criticized his opponent's appeal to President Tamas Sulyok to resign from office. In Hungary, the president is elected by the parliament, and Sulyok was elected head of state by the votes of the Fidesz-KDNP coalition.

In the parliamentary elections on April 12, TISZA won a constitutional majority of 133 seats in the 199-seat National Assembly. Currently, after conversion, almost 99 percent votes, Magyar's party has 137 seats in parliament, the Fidesz-KDNP coalition led by Orban – 56, and the far-right Mi Hazank – six.
