Sharon Stone criticizes erotic scenes in today's films and series: “I'm fast-forwarding”

Sharon Stone is back in the spotlight to promote her role in the upcoming season of HBO's hit series “Euphoria,” premiering April 13. It is considered a provocative portrayal of sexuality, which makes some of the veteran actress' comments all the more surprising, writes Variety magazine.

The Oscar-nominated actress for her performance in the gangster film “Casino” (1995) revealed in an interview with CBS Morning that she has a major gripe with the way the modern film and television industry treats sex scenes and nudity, believing that everything has become too “explicit” and “rough” on screen.

Stone, now 68, says she has come to “fast forward” to skip erotic scenes when watching TV at home because it leaves nothing to the imagination.

“It wasn't even a whole frame of film,” Stone said of her famous nudity scene in “Basic Instinct” (1992), which sparked a media firestorm. “And so people were desperately trying to figure it out. And I think that idea of 'Oh my God,' this hope, this wonder, this mystery, this intrigue, this desire is what our whole deep sexuality is based on,” the actress told CBS.

“Very often now, when there are sex scenes on TV, I fast-forward. I don't want to see them,” continued Sharon Stone. “I don't want to go through all this explicit, harsh sexuality. For me, it robs my own imagination. And I prefer the desire, the mystery, the fantasy. I want to keep all of that alive in me,” she added.

Sharon Stone Says She Was Cheated While Filming 'Basic Instinct'

“Basic Instinct” turned Stone into a movie star and an international sex symbol. But she revealed in The Beauty of Living Twice, her 2021 memoir, that she was misled about the film's most famous scene and saw it in its final form at a screening with agents and lawyers.

“This is how I saw my vagina filmed for the first time, long after I had been told, “There's nothing to see—I just need you to take off your underwear, because white reflects light,'' Stone wrote in her memoir. She emphasized that at no point was she told that the scene would be included in that form in the film.

Stone added that after seeing the sequence, he went to the booth of “Basic Instinct” director Paul Verhoeven and slapped him.

Variety reported last month that United Artists, a division of Amazon studio MGM, had acquired the rights to a “reboot” of the 1992 film, with original screenwriter Joe Eszterhas set to return to write the new feature as well.

Stone poked fun at the project at the time of the announcement, saying, “Give it a go. Good luck!” Last year she alleged that she was cut without explanation from the cast of another Amazon MGM film, the thriller “Another Simple Favor,” starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

The veteran actress will soon be seen in an acclaimed HBO series

As for the veteran actress' new production, season 3 of “Euphoria” will premiere on the HBO Max streaming platform on Sunday, April 12. In Romania, it will debut on HBO Max in the morning of the following day, due to the time zone difference with the US. A new episode will then be released one week apart.

The series, which returns with a new season after a 4-year hiatus, follows a group of childhood friends who deal with issues such as faith, overcoming trauma and the notion of evil.

Euphoria was widely acclaimed by film critics and received 25 Emmy Award nominations in just two seasons, winning 9 times.

Although Stone's role in the series is being kept under wraps, she revealed in an interview in late February:

“Season 3, you know, now [tinerii] they are adults. I'm not in high school anymore. So we see what they do about 10 years later. And it's not all so dramatic anymore. And my role is kind of hilarious. I tell you honestly, I don't remember when I had so much fun at work.”

Actor Eric Dane will also be seen posthumously in the series, although it is unclear if his character will be as important as in previous seasons, given that he took part in the filming after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
