Arne Slot, after PSG – Liverpool: “Lucky that we only lost 2-0”

In the interview with TNT Sports, the Dutch coach stated that “if we look at the game as a whole, I think we were lucky that we only lost 2-0 because they created more chances than the goals scored”.

“Even though the first goal was tough because they didn't threaten us and it came from a deflected shot, they had a lot of chances to score other goals after that,” added Slot, who was nonetheless confident of next Tuesday's return:

“I think it's very positive for us that we stay in contention for qualification. Now we get them at Anfield and we all know how much of a difference Anfield can make for us.”

“Survival mode” Liverpool

“We were in survival mode for large parts of the game, but maybe because of the time of the season we are in we are in survival mode.

PSG were the better team but we didn't give up and that's why we have another chance. They kept us alive by failing to capitalize on some clear cut opportunities.

We want to create many more opportunities. We tried many times to press them up, but they managed to get past us when we played man to man. I think that happened in the second half as well. There were some moments with players in promising positions,” Slot said.

How Arne Slot explained the absence of Mohamed Salah

He was also asked why he started with Mohamed Salah on the bench. The Egyptian, who will leave Liverpool in the summer, remained on the bench for the entire match.

“I think it's better for him to save his energy for the upcoming games,” Slot replied.
